TAWA organized the 5th session of Turkish Cooking Classes on March 6th. We introduced Southeast Anatolia region of Turkey and had a lot of fun learning and tasting its unique dishes.

TAWA and UNT Professor’s Discussed Importance of Education |

 TAWA had the opportunity to host the ladies from the University of North Texas (UNT) at the Turquoise Center. The attendees were the Director of Women’s Studies, Dr. Sandra Spencer, the Director of Intensive English Learning Institute (IELI), Eva Bowman, the Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Jean Schaake, and Assistant Vice Provost of International Education, Saleha Suleman. TAWA’s purpose for hosting these esteemed intellectuals was to discuss the significance of education for women.

TAWA had February Coffee Night on Feb 18. Harmony Science Academy student Fatma Sahin gave a brief presentation about "Board games in the world throughout the history ".
Following the presentation there was a small cooking competition where guests competed to make Turkish potato salad. Winners with the best taste and look won small gifts. Guests enjoyed salads and other delicious food along with nice conversations. Then they had fun dancing with musical chairs game and playing Taboo. |

TAWA organized the 4th session of Turkish Cooking Classes on February 20th. We all had great time enjoying freshly cooked dishes and funny "Temel jokes" of Black Sea region. We also enjoyed meeting our new cooking class students. Don't worry if you have missed this class, join us on March 6th for the next session!

Dallas County Co mmissioner Maurine Dickey was guest speaker of the January Luncheon which was held on January 30th. Commissioner Dickey made a presentation about the PDI (Prostitution Diversion Initiative) program and her involvement in the program. |

TAWA organized January Coffee Night at the Turquoise Center on January 21st. The programme started with a short presentation of Turkish Wedding Customs by Esra Akbay, a PhD Candidate at UTSouthwestern Medical Center.
Delicious Turkish Cuisine was enjoyed right after the presentation. It was followed by an actual "Henna Night" for three future brides; Jenny, Sewinch and Esmar. |

TAWA announces free Turkish classes which will be offered at Southern Methodist University and University of Texas at Dallas this semester.
The classes will start on February 1st and February 2nd for SMU and UTD respectively. Program at SMU will offer Turkish courses from elementary to advanced levels. UTD classes will be for intermediate and advanced level learners. For more information or inquiries, please contact Reyhane Kilci at

TAWA organized second session of Turkish Cooking Classes on January 23rd, Saturday. We demonstrated some of the dishes of the fascinating Aegean region and watched videos on its history, culture and people. Next cooking class will be on February 6th, Saturday. Please join us for the feast!
